E.On confirmed the investment decision for the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm in the UK. The total investment is about $2.1 billion. The UK Green Investment Bank plc has acquired a $364 million stake in the project.

The wind power project is located in the English Channel, 8 miles from the Sussex coast due south of Brighton. The offshore wind farm will have the capacity to generate 400 MW of electricity and is expected to generate 1,300 GWh of renewable energy annually, enough to supply the equivalent of up to 300,000 homes and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 661,000 tons a year.

The project is comprised of 116 3.45 MW wind turbines, associated foundations, an offshore substation and cabling.

E.On will provide construction, operations and maintenance as well as energy management services to the project. This includes the delivery of the connection to the National Grid with marine export cables to shore, about 16 miles of onshore cables and onshore grid substation assets. E.On will divest these offshore transmission assets under a regulated sales process.

E.On, headquartered in Dusseldorf, Germany, is the world’s third largest offshore wind operator having completed the construction of seven offshore wind farms totaling 1.2 GW with another 507 MW currently under construction.
