TVA asks for comments on 161 kV transmission line

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is asking the public for input about a transmission line project that would provide additional power for growing electric load in Van Buren County, Tenn.

TVA is proposing to build 4 to 5 miles of 161-kV transmission line. The line would extend south from TVA’s existing Watts Bar Hydro-Great Falls Hydro 161-kV line to Caney Fork Electric Cooperative’s new substation, to be located at the intersection of Industrial Boulevard and Drake and Shockley Road.

TVA is considering several alternate routes. The line would be built on steel pole structures centered on a 100-foot right of way.

TVA is a corporate agency of the U.S. that provides electricity for business customers and local power distributors serving 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenues from sales of electricity. In addition to operating and investing its revenues in its electric system, TVA provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists local power companies and state and local governments with economic development and job creation.
