Enel Latin America (Chile), a local unit of Italy's Enel Green Power, requested an environmental permit for the construction of a 50 MW photovoltaic plant in Antofagasta municipality, in northern Chile.

The solar power project, estimated at $110 million, includes a 220 kV transmission line of 2,037 feet that will connect the plant to an existing power line and the Palestina substation, part of Chile's SING grid.

The plant, dubbed Flor del Desierto, is expected to produce 98 GWh a year.
