GE, Westinghouse plan Indian nuclear plants

Bangalore, India, September 2, 2010 — GE and Westinghouse Electric, owned by Toshiba Corp., could spend a combined $10 billion to build two nuclear reactors in India.

Agreements with the two American firms were being formed ahead of President Barack Obama's planned visit to India in November, according to reports.

India has also identified France's Areva and Russia's Rosatom for building nuclear reactors in the country, according to reports.

Earlier this week, India's parliament approved a bill to open up the country's $150 billion nuclear power market, thus allowing the entry of U.S. firms.
