New York regulators approve underwater transmission link to N.J.

New York City, September 8, 2010 — The New York Public Service Commission has approved a high-voltage power line that will connect New York City with New Jersey.

New York regulators approved New York State’s segment of the seven-mile line, which will run from Manhattan to Ridgefield, New Jersey. The transmission line will travel underneath the Hudson River and connect to the PJM Interconnection.

The line will provide an initial 320 MW of additional transmission capacity from the PJM Interconnection into midtown Manhattan, with the potential to grow to 660 MW.

The line is being developed by Hudson Transmission Partners. Investors include private-equity firm Energy Investors Funds and a unit of Starwood Capital Group Global.
