Delft, The Netherlands, September 9, 2010 — Swedish furniture maker Ikea has purchased six wind farms with a combined capacity of 45 MW from Gamesa.
The wind farms, located in north and southwest Germany, are a part of Gamesa’s Zettingen project that is still under construction. No financial details of the purchase were released.
Spain-based Gamesa is developing a portfolio of 22 GW of wind farms around the world. In Germany, the company has developed and commissioned 190 MW, and has a development portfolio of 500 MW.
Ikea said it would make other investments in wind and solar power as it seeks to source all its energy needs from renewables. The deal with Gamesa has increased Ikea’s wind power capacity to 93 MW equivalent to about one tenth of its energy needs.
