Galvin Electricity Initiative lobbies Senate for distributed generation

Washington, D.C., March 18, 2010 — Galvin Electricity Initiative is encouraging consumers to contact their U.S. senators to urge them to add provisions for distributed generation, like smart microgrids, to the latest version of the climate bill.

Incorporating this forward-thinking infrastructure to the climate bill will modernize the electricity distribution system so it can best utilize clean energy and save our ailing electricity system.

“Climate bill discussions have been burdened with language that suggests that investing solely in clean energy generation and cutting carbon emissions are the best approaches for delivering a clean energy future for the U.S.,” said Kurt Yeager, executive director of the Galvin Electricity Initiative.

“In reality, policymakers must implement provisions in the climate bill to modernize the electricity distribution system so that it can best utilize renewable energy by paving the way for distributed generation, such as smart microgrids. This approach will effectively convert buildings from power pigs to power plants and integrate renewable resources on the community level while enabling customer participation in the electricity enterprise.”
