Metallic Power, developer of rapidly refuel-able zinc/air fuel cells, partnered with ABB to build a 4 kW, 48 V prototype backup power system primarily for telecommunications but with applications for information systems and electrical equipment serving up to 50 kW. Metallic Power will develop the zinc/air fuel cell for the energy source while ABB will develop the power electronics for a backup power prototype.
