Westinghouse Electric Co. will provide the first Western-designed nuclear reload fuel to a Russian-designed VVER 1000 commercial nuclear power plant in Ukraine. Under the terms of a U.S. government-funded program, Westinghouse negotiated with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to provide nuclear fuel technology transfer, lead test assemblies and a fuel reload to the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3. The test assemblies and the initial reload for the plant will be manufactured at the Westinghouse Commercial Nuclear Fuel Division`s facility in Columbia, S.C. The zirconium fuel rods for the assemblies will be manufactured at the Westinghouse Specialty Metals Plant in Blairsville, Pa.
