Accusing New Jersey regulators of, well, over-regulating deregulation, Green Mountain Energy`s GreenMountain.com said it`s not interested in the state`s restructuring electricity market.
New Jersey`s restructuring seems to be mired in delays. In August, regulators announced that requests for electricity supply changes wouldn`t be filed until mid-October. Regulators set Nov. 14 as the earliest that power can start flowing under the new system and marketers can begin receiving revenues from those transactions.
And, regulations controlling the relationship between the state`s four incumbent utilities and their unregulated marketing operations still need to be established.
Green Mountain Energy officials and others said those regulations currently in place create an obstacle course instead of bringing competition to the market or protecting customers from "slamming."
At the same stage in the restructuring process last year, Pennsylvania, deregulation`s golden boy, had approved 90 electricity marketers, including Green Mountain Energy. To date, New Jersey has licensed 19.
