New York ISO delays start

After nine days of a simulated market test, participants in the planned New York Independent System Operator (NY ISO) decided to postpone its launch until mid-October.

"The board believes that a reliable electric supply and an orderly functioning of the new market is well worth an additional few weeks," said Richard Grossi, NY ISO chairman.

Leaving open the possibility that the new start date could be pushed back if flaws found during the market test aren`t cleared up, Grossi said an advance notice will be issued two weeks before starting. NY ISO will ultimately replace the New York Power Pool, which now manages the flow of about 28,000 MW.
