EIA adopts changed weather assumptions

The Energy Information Administration is adopting weather premises that reflect a three-decade long warming trend identified by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. Adopting the warming trend in place of long-term averages for the period October 1999 to September 2000 lowers total annual projected energy consumption by about 0.3 percent. On a seasonal basis, its greatest demand impact will be during the winter quarter, when total energy consumption is adjusted downward by about 1 percent.
