Mr. Burr:
Bravo for your commentary in the September edition of Electric Light & Power ("Y2K: Doomsayer`s delight," page 3.) I would like your permission to republish your article on CSW`s inside-the-company employee intranet. I will credit you and EL&P.
I am the senior communications resource committed to CSW`s Y2K readiness project. I work full-time on the project. In fact I have been living Y2K for months.
You were right on target with your points about the impact consumer behavior can have on electric systems around New Year`s Eve. Load forecasting is always a tricky business; mix winter weather and public Y2K concerns, and it becomes an even bigger challenge for 12/31/1999.
Also, thanks for pushing the electric utility industry toward more Y2K communication with customers. We at CSW have taken a proactive approach with Y2K customer communications. Employees at all levels and in many locations have used our Y2K communication tools to address public and customer meetings of all types. We use video, PowerPoint presentations, customer newsletters, face-to-face visits, our website, email and many other communication tools to give customers the information on Y2K they crave.
We were especially pleased and honored to see that you had included our Internet site as a "helpful Y2K website" in your article. Our site has served us well.
Your editorial moved the industry in the right direction. Thank you for saying: "So what is a utility to do? The obvious answer is to step up communication efforts." Keep up the good work.

We are, of course, honored to have CSW post the September EL&P commentary on its corporate intranet.
