Erlangen, Germany, Jan. 3, 2012 -- Siemens Energy Inc., along with its consortium partner, Kvaerner North American Construction Inc. (a subsidiary of Kvaerner ASA), achieved substantial completion of the 695 MW (net) supercritical pulverized coal-fired power plant located in Maidsville, W.V. The plant was turned over to Longview Power LLC, which is a subsidiary of GenPower Holdings L.P. The Longview Plant will make a major contribution to environmentally compatible and economical power generation in the region. It is also one of the most efficient and cleanest coal-fired plants in the U.S.
"This project demonstrates that highly efficient coal-fired power plants indeed go hand in hand with low emissions and a high degree of environmental compatibility," said Hal S. Simonds, Director of Projects, Energy Solutions - Americas at Siemens Fossil Power Generation Division. "The performance levels guaranteed by Siemens in the contract were not only maintained but were all surpassed as well." Siemens delivered an SST6-6000 steam turbine, an SGen6-3000W generator and the SPPA-T3000 control system for the Longview plant. Siemens also supplied an innovative system for air pollution control and emissions reduction for the plant, which cuts emissions of dust, sulfur-dioxide, nitrous oxides and mercury, making a crucial contribution to cleaner coal-based power generation. The boiler for the power plant was manufactured by Foster Wheeler North America Corp. Kvaerner North American Construction Inc. was responsible for the construction and erection work.
