Alstom signs $120 million hydropower contract with Endesa in Colombia

Paris, December 28, 2010 — A consortium formed by Alstom and Schrader Camargo, a Colombian assembly company, have signed a contract with Emgesa for the supply and assembly of electromechanical equipment for the 400 MW El Quimbo hydro power plant.

The total value of the contract is about $152.5 million euros, of which Alstom's share is around $120 million.

Alstom is responsible for the delivery of the electromechanical equipment for the plant’s two 200 MW units. The main equipment for the project, Francis turbines and generators, will be manufactured at Alstom’s Taubate factory in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Commissioning of the first unit is planned for August 2014, and the second unit in October 2014. The project will be executed in the towns of El Agrado and Gigante, 50 km from the city of Neiva and around 350 km south of Bogota.

“We are very pleased with this new contract with Endesa, one of our major customers, as it reconfirms the trust they have in our long-lasting partnership in the region”, commented Marcos Costa, Head of Power for Alstom Latin America.
