First Solar buys 117 MW project from Ausra Inc

Los Angeles, November 5, 2009 — Solar industry firm First Solar purchased a 117 MW project in California from solar thermal start-up Ausra Inc.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ausra’s sale of the Carrizo Energy Solar Farm is part of the company’s shifting business model. The company wants to focus on supplying utility-scale solar steam generators instead of developing solar projects.

Ausra secured a power purchase agreement for the project with Pacific Gas and Electric in 2007. The agreement was canceled as part of the sale.

First Solar can use the newly acquired land to revise the layout of the larger 550 MW Topaz Solar Farm project. Both projects include land near each other in San Luis Obispo County.
