Pole Pullers Provide Faster, Safer Solution for Utility Crews

Diversified Products introduces two pole puller models, giving electric utility crews a faster and safer method for pole removal. The pole pullers provide a simplified solution that reduces the chance of equipment damage or worker injury associated with other pole pulling devices.

The XHD-60 pole puller delivers more than 120,000 pounds of pulling force and can handle poles up to 26" in diameter. The 1,500-lb unit utilizes two hydraulic cylinders, each featuring a cam action head with beveled teeth to effectively grip the pole. A set of chains holds the cam heads together during the pulling process. As the cylinders push upward, the cam heads rotate, the teeth dig into the pole and lift it. The cylinder stroke is 24", compared to 15" on other pullers–enabling crews to efficiently pull out a pole in fewer cycles. Additionally, the dual cylinder design causes less damage to poles than other pullers, allowing some poles to be re-used.

The HD-30 pole puller provides 60,000-lb of pulling force and can be used on poles up to 18" in diameter. The 700-lb puller uses two hydraulic cylinders, also with a cam action head and beveled teeth, and matches the 24" cylinder stroke offered by the XHD-60. Both models feature holding valves to prevent the cylinders from drifting down while under load.

Field-tested and approved by transmission and distribution maintenance professionals, the pole pullers are operated using the controls on a hydraulic power source such as a skid steer, crane or derrick. Each unit requires hydraulic flow of 5 to 15 gpm at 2,500 psi. In addition, the pullers feature multiple lifting points for easy positioning by crane or skid steer.

New Fuse Tool

HD Electric Company's new FT-1 Fuse Tool assists in the removal and installation of most cutout type overhead fuse links. The Fuse Tool has a 7" fuse receiver that provides increased safety and greater control by keeping the fuse link securely in place during removal and installation. The built-in switch hook is then used to close in the fuse link.

By using the Fuse Tool, line crews are able to quickly and safely remove and install most cutout type overhead fuse links found in overhead distribution systems.

New iVISOR mentor EI65 Indicator System for Mobile Cranes

Hirschmann Automation and Control has introduced the iVISOR mentor EI65 indicator system for mobile cranes. It provides a continuous display of actual load and allowable load, boom angle, boom length, radius, parts of line, and alerts the operator to an impending two block condition. All setup and calibration is done through the user-friendly console. The operator can preset limits for all geometric and load variables with an audible and visual warning when these limits are reached; this function provides the operator with additional information when operating in areas of limited headroom or proximity to buildings, electric transmission lines, etc.

The large backlit display incorporates BestView - Adaptive display control for optimal readability. The iVISOR mentor EI65 incorporates CANbus technology for all sensors, plus the load is measured with either an SKM running line tensiometer or a dead end force transducer. The system is also designed as an upgrade, with the latest technology, to existing EI65 systems that are currently in the field.

In addition, the iVISOR mentor EI65 meets industry standards for indicating devices, as a new system and as an upgrade to an existing EI65 system.

Welding End Prep Blades Transfer Heat Away From Pipe Into Chip

A full line of cutter blades for ESCO Tool's welding end prep tools produce a heavy, thick chip without cutting oils while keeping their cutting edge cool. The ESCO MILLHOG cutter blades are made from T-15 tool steel, titanium nitride coated for added lubricity, and feature a radical chip breaker that transfers heat away from the pipe and into the chip. Designed to keep the cutting edge cool and prolong blade life, they are especially suited for use on stainless steels, P-91 and other hard alloys without using cutting oils.

Available for the company's full range of welding end prep tools–which are capable of beveling, facing and boring simultaneously–ESCO MILLHOG cutter blades can be supplied in any angle of end prep including J-prep, 37-1/2° and compound bevels. They mount rigidly in the cutter head using the EscoLock wedge-lock blade locking system which holds tighter under working pressure.
