Letter to the Editor: Taking CEO to task

I have read EL&P for most of my career. I have enjoyed it and have benefited from your objective reporting of power industry information. You have done consistently well by providing information in a legible and concise format.

I just read Mr. Saillant's (Mr. S.) article [November Executive Insights] prompting the country to move toward a hydrogen-based economy.

Mr. S. wants nothing short of a government-subsidized rebuilding of our energy commodities delivery infrastructure so everyone can rightly see, and more importantly, have newfound access to the benefit of distributed power.

Plug Power wants the gullible taxpayers of this nation to bail them out of their failure to predict the growth and trends of the energy market—while saying nothing about the obstacles in the form of the challenges and risks associated with hydrogen transport (remember the Hindenburg?) and what a potential windfall this could be to our homegrown terrorists.

Mr. S. may be one of the preeminent idea men in our industry, but he may need to be a little less self-serving and think his ideas through to their possible endpoints before he cries for change.

Do not worry, I plan to continue reading your great magazine despite your giving wind to the wings of dot.com upstarts with a "it will surely make billions" mentality.
