Impsa signs $479 million contract for hydro project in Argentina

Buenos Aires, February 21, 2011 — Argentine renewable energy firm Impsa has signed a 479 million contract with the Norte Energia consortium for the supply of four generating units for Brazil's Belo Monte hydropower project.

In a statement, Impsa said the four generating units will have a combined capacity of 2,500 MW.

The contract also includes all the penstocks, lifting equipment and supervision of the assembly and start-up operations.

The Norte Energia consortium won the license to build and operate Belo Monte in April last year.

The Belo Monte hydro project will be built in the Xingu River in the northern state of Para.
