Xcel Energy customers in Texas to receive refund

Amarillo, Texas, August 18, 2009 – Xcel Energy retail customers in Texas will soon be receiving a refund on their bills because of lower fuel costs.

The refund will be a one-time credit based on August usage. A residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours in August will receive a credit of $23.60. Because the refund will be calculated on August usage, customers can expect to see the credit on bills received in August, September and/or October depending on their billing cycles.

Xcel Energy collects its fuel and purchased-energy costs in Texas through a fuel factor that is approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas. At the time the current factor was developed, fuel and purchased power expenses were projected to be higher than the actual amount spent. The credit will rebate customers for amounts collected under the allowed fuel factors in early 2009 that exceeded actual fuel and purchased-energy costs.

Xcel Energy is a U.S. electricity and natural gas company with regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. Xcel Energy serves 3.4 million electricity customers.
