Wind farm opposed by Donald Trump gets go-ahead in Scotland

An offshore wind farm opposed by property magnate and media figure Donald Trump will proceed into its construction phase following its official approval.

The 11-turbine wind energy project, located near Aberdeen, Scotland, drew Trump's ire because he said it would spoil the view surrounding his multi-million dollar 18-hole golf course.

The wind farm, which carries an estimated $295 million price tag, will generate 100 MW when completed — enough to power roughly half the homes in Aberdeen. Scotland's Energy Minister Fergus Ewing said the project would help the power industry advance offshore wind technology.

Trump said he would use "every legal means" at his disposal to make sure the wind farm was never built. He also said generating electricity from wind turbines is an "obsolete" technology.

Shortly before the renewable energy project was approved, Trump announced plans to build another 18-hole golf course on the same property.
